BIS Recruitment 2025: Scientist-B Posts in Multiple Disciplines

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, has announced a recruitment drive for the post of Scientist-B in various disciplines. This is a golden opportunity for young, dynamic professionals to join a prestigious organization responsible for standardization, certification, hallmarking, and laboratory testing in India and at the international level. Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria as of May 23, 2025:

  • Age Limit: Maximum 30 years. Relaxations:
    • SC/ST: 5 years
    • OBC: 3 years
    • PwBD (UR): 10 years
    • PwBD (SC/ST): 15 years
    • PwBD (OBC): 13 years
    • Ex-Servicemen: Up to 3 years (8 years for SC/ST) for disabled defense personnel; 5 years for others as per rules.
    • Departmental BIS candidates: Up to 50 years.
  • Educational Qualifications:
    • Chemistry: Master’s Degree in Natural Sciences (Chemistry) with ≥60% marks (50% for SC/ST).
    • Engineering Disciplines: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology in the relevant discipline (Civil, Computer, Electrical, Electronics, Environment) with ≥60% marks (50% for SC/ST).
    • GATE Score: Valid GATE score from 2023, 2024, or 2025 in the corresponding GATE paper (e.g., CY for Chemistry, CE for Civil Engineering, CS for Computer Engineering, etc.).
    • Qualifications must be from a recognized university/institute, with results declared by May 23, 2025.

Selection Process

The selection process comprises the following stages:

  • Shortlisting: Based on GATE 2023/2024/2025 scores. In case of a tie, candidates with higher GATE percentile or older age are prioritized.
  • Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview after document verification. The interview schedule will be communicated via email and hosted on www.bis.gov.in.
  • Final Merit List: Based on 85% weightage to GATE score and 15% to interview marks. Ties are resolved by higher GATE score or older age.

Service Conditions

  • Surety Bond: Selected candidates must sign a bond to serve BIS for at least 3 years or reimburse 6 months’ emoluments if they leave early.
  • Probation: 2 years.
  • Benefits: Leave, LTC, medical benefits, and leave encashment (15 days/year) as per BIS/Central Government rules.
  • Posting: Anywhere in India.
  • Career Prospects: Promotions under the Modified Flexible Complementing Scheme based on performance.

How to Apply

Candidates must apply online through the BIS website (www.bis.gov.in) from 11:00 hours on May 3, 2025, to 23:59 hours on May 23, 2025. Follow these steps:

  1. Registration: Visit the ‘Career Opportunities’ section, select the Scientist-B recruitment advertisement, and click ‘Link for Online Application.’ Register by providing name, contact details, and email ID to generate an Application Number.
  2. Application Form: Fill in personal, educational, and GATE details. Upload scanned copies of:
    • Passport-size photograph (≤200 KB).
    • Signature (≤200 KB).
    • Date of Birth Certificate, GATE Scorecard, Identity Proof, Degree/Marksheet, Category Certificate (if applicable), Conversion Formula (if CGPA/OGPA, ≤1 MB each).
  3. Submission: Preview the application, verify details, and submit after checking the declaration. No changes are allowed post-submission.

Note: Candidates employed in government/PSUs must produce an NOC at the time of the interview or submit an undertaking if unable to provide it.
