IWAI Opens New Office in Srinagar to Boost Inland Water Transport in Jammu and Kashmir, Signs MoU for Development of River Navigation Infrastructure

Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) inaugurated its new office in Srinagar’s Transport Bhawan, marking a significant step toward strengthening the Inland Water Transport (IWT) sector in Jammu and Kashmir. Facilitated by the J&K government, this office will serve as the hub for all IWT initiatives in the region, promoting eco-tourism and boosting the local economy.

The IWAI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Jammu and Kashmir government to develop navigational infrastructure across three national waterwaysNW-26 (River Chenab)NW-49 (River Jhelum), and NW-84 (River Ravi). Under the MoU, IWAI will undertake several development projects, including the installation of floating jetties at ten locations in Jammu and Kashmir.
