CSIR Observes Swachhata Pakhwada 2025: DG Dr. Kalaiselvi Leads Cleanliness Drive, Felicitates Safai Mitras & Promotes Digital Hygiene

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) observed Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 from May 1 to May 15, 2025, across its headquarters in New Delhi and constituent laboratories, aligning with the Swachh Bharat Mission to realize Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a clean and hygienic India. A Strong Start with the Swachhata Pledge

The Pakhwada commenced on May 1, 2025, with a pledge-taking ceremony at CSIR Headquarters, led by Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Director-General, CSIR, and Secretary, DSIR. Joined by Shri Mahendra Kumar Gupta, Joint Secretary (Admin), Shri Chetan Prakash Jain, Financial Advisor, and CSIR employees, the collective pledge set a motivational tone, emphasizing the importance of sustained cleanliness efforts

Comprehensive Cleanliness Drives

During the Pakhwada, CSIR conducted extensive cleanliness drives across its premises. Dr. N. Kalaiselvi and CSIR staff actively participated, clearing construction debris and scrap. Special recognition was given to Safai Mitras, who were felicitated for their tireless efforts in maintaining cleanliness year-round. The Civil Section and canteen staff revamped the canteen, enhancing hygiene and user experience. 

Digital and Infrastructure Upgrades

The Pakhwada emphasized digital cleanliness by clearing pending e-files in the e-office system. The IT Division provided hands-on training for efficient e-file management. Infrastructure improvements included air conditioning cleaning and water purifier maintenance, ensuring a healthier workspace. 

Creative Engagement Through Competitions

For the first time, CSIR introduced a Photography Competition to promote creative engagement with the cleanliness theme. Other activities included slogan writingpainting, and Kavita Path competitions, fostering awareness and participation among employees.

The Pakhwada concluded on May 15, 2025, with a valedictory function where competition winners were felicitated. Dr. N. Kalaiselvi emphasized, “Swachhata is a way of life that must reflect in physical and digital workspaces.” She urged employees to integrate cleanliness into CSIR’s organizational culture. The event was coordinated by Shri Mayank Mathur, Chief Scientist, and Dr. A.S. Nirmala Devi, Principal Scientist, with the Standing Swachhata Committee
